An accurate and efficient scheme for function extension on smooth domains
This article discusses the extension problem of an \(n\)-times differentiable function defined on a smooth domain \(D\subset \mathbb{R}^d\), \(d\geq 1\). The current approach relies on introducing a linear combination of \(n + 1\) functions which extends the original function along normal directions to the boundary of the domain \(D\). This amounts to reducing the extension to the solvability of an \(n+1\) Vandermonde system. As an application, the authors use the proposed method to discuss the solvability of the Dirichlet problem for the Poisson equation. Numerical experiments are also included to support the proposed algorithm.
