An enumeration of flags in finite vector spaces
From MaRDI portal
Summary: By counting flags in finite vector spaces, we obtain a \(q\)-multinomial analog of a recursion for \(q\)-binomial coefficients proved by \textit{A. Nijenhuis}, \textit{A. E. Solow}, and \textit{H. S. Wilf} [J. Comb. Theory, Ser. A 37, 80--84 (1984; Zbl 0541.05003)]. We use the identity to give a combinatorial proof of a known recurrence for the generalized Galois numbers.
