An example of complete alternance in the multidimensional case

From MaRDI portal

The authors consider the classical problem of the best uniform approximation of a continuous function on a simplex with dimension greater than or equal 2, concerning complete alternance, when the system of basis functions is not a Chebyshev system. For the concept of complete alternance, see e.g., [\textit{V. F. Demyanov} and \textit{V. N. Malozemov}, J. Optim. Theory Appl. 162, No. 3, 805--820 (2014; Zbl 1307.90170)]; for the case of the approximation by generalized polynomials with a Chebyshev system of basis functions, see e.g. [\textit{A. V. Marinov}, Izv. Math. 75, No. 3, 603--630 (2011; Zbl 1229.41030); translation from Izv. Ross. Akad. Nauk, Ser. Mat. 2011, No. 3, 161--188 (2011)]. In the paper under review the existence and uniqueness of a solution for a specific function is provided (see Theorems 1 and 2). Further, it is shown the strong uniqueness of the solution, and also determined its exact constant value (see Theorem 3).
