An extension of a theorem of Neumann

From MaRDI portal

The article explores the problem of embedding countable groups into simple groups with specific property. The authors extend Neumann's classical result by proving that any countable group \(G\) can be embedded into a countable simple group \(\overline{G}\), where every equation of the form \(w(x_1,\dots,x_n)=g\) (with \(w\) being a non-empty reduced group word and \(g\in\overline{G}\)) is solvable in \(\overline{G}\).\N\NThe proof of the result is based on applications of HNN extensions.
