An identification problem for an anchovy larva model
The paper deals with a mathematical model describing the larval stages of the anchovy in a habitat \(D\times(0,z^*)\), where \(D\) is two-dimensional and bounded. The PDE considered is \[ {\partial\ell \over\partial t}+ {\partial\ell \over\partial a}+\text{div} (V\cdot\ell) -{\partial\over\partial z}\left(n(z){\partial \ell\over\partial z}\right)+ \mu(z)\ell=0. \] Here \(a\) is the age, \(V=(V_1(x,y,t)\), \(V_2(x,y,t)\), \(V_2(z,t))\) is an ocean current with \(\text{div} V=0\), \(h\) is a mixing coefficient and \(\mu\) is the mortality rate. The authors then discuss an inverse problem of reconstituting missing data from measurements.
