Compared with the first edition (1993; see Zbl 0777.34001), the author has restructured the chapters, placing special emphasis on introductory materials in Chapters 1 and 2. In addition, more material on bifurcations, sections on randomly perturbed systems, and several new computer simulations have been added. The second edition contains ten pages more than the first one, the references are essentially the same (except two new books of the author).
