Analytic versus algebraic density of polynomials
From MaRDI portal
The authors prove that the span of \(\{ x^k \}_{k=n}^{\infty}\) is dense in the space \(L^2(\mu)\) for all \(n=0,1,2,\dots\), if the measure \(\mu\) on the interval \([0,\infty)\) satisfies some mild conditions. Two different proofs of this result are given, the first one is based on the density index of \textit{C. Berg} and \textit{M. Thill} [IMACS Ann. Comput. Appl. Math. 9, 185--188 (1991; Zbl 0830.44006)], and the second one is based on the Hilbert space \(L^2(\mu)\oplus\mathbb{C}^{n+1}\).
