Approximation operators of binomial type

From MaRDI portal

The objective of this paper is to present a unified theory of the approximation operators of binomial type. Let us consider the basic sequence \((b_n)_{n\geq 0}\) associated to a certain delta operator \(Q\). By supposing that \(b_n(x)\geq 0\), \(x\geq 0\), the purpose is to put in evidence some approximation properties of the linear positive operators \((L^Q_n)_{n\geq 1}\) which are defined on \(C[0,1]\) by \[ L^Q_n(f; x)= \sum^n_{k=0} f\Biggl({k\over n}\Biggr) b^{-1}_n(n){n\choose k} b_k(nx)b_{n-k}(n- nx). \] This paper is first of all concerned with the construction of such operators. The construction method is performed by means of umbral calculus. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0919.00054].
