Arcwise connectedness in hyperspaces of closed totally disconnected subsets

From MaRDI portal

A \textit{continuum} is a compact connected metric space. A \textit{dendroid} is an arcwise connected continuum such that the intersection of any two of its subcontinua is a subcontinuum. A continuum \(X\) is \textsl{uniformly arcwise connected} if \(X\) is arc-wise connected and for each \(\varepsilon > 0\), there exists a positive integer \(k\) such that every arc can be written as the union of \(k\) arcs, each one of them having diameter less than \(\varepsilon\).\N\NThe symbol \(TD(X)\) denotes the hyperspace of all closed totally disconnected subsets of a \(T_1\) space \(X\) endowed with the Vietoris topology. This hyperspace was introduced and studied in [\textit{R. Escobedo} et al., Glas. Mat., III. Ser. 55, No. 1, 113--128 (2020; Zbl 1450.54006)]. Example 4.5 of [loc. cit.] exhibits a non-uniformly arcwise connected dendroid \(X\) such that \(TD(X)\) is not arcwise connected. In connection with this fact the main result of the present paper states that if \(X\) is a non-uniformly arcwise connected dendroid, then \(TD(X)\) has \(\mathfrak c\) arc-components.
