Balanced truncation with conformal maps

From MaRDI portal

This paper deals with the design of a model reduction scheme for large scale systems with poles in general domains in the complex plane. To reach such result a balanced truncation framework through conformal maps to handle poles in general domains is used. In this respect the following main results are presented: 1. The Gramians of a linear time invariant system with poles in general domains via conformal mappings are used and the balanced truncation algorithm to this class of systems is extended. 2. For certain choice of conformal mappings, the Gramians are the solutions of modified Lyapunov equations. 3. The resulting reduced model preserves stability when specific conformal maps are adopted, and an a-posteriori bound on an appropriately modified \({H_2}\) like norm is given. Finally, an algorithmic framework and the effectiveness of the proposed method on a diverse set of illustrative examples with poles in different domains are presented.
