Basics of programming and algorithms, principles and applications

From MaRDI portal

This textbook gives an introduction to topics in algorithms and programming using Python and is the outcome of several lectures given by the authors. It is divided into two parts: Python programming and Algorithms. Part I contains 6 chapters. Starting from the first steps in Python, the authors cover several programs in Python, functions and recursion, data structures and drawings, and file handling in Part I. Part II contains seven chapters. Topics like algorithmic performance, recursion, sorting, more about recursion, trees as data structures and hashing are discussed here. Each chapter typically starts with examples to illustrate the ideas, and many exercises are spread over the whole book. Solutions to some excercises are also included. Overall, this is a very useful textbook for students of computer science.
