Blocking sets and semifields
In the paper under review the author shows a relationship between semifield spreads of \({\text PG}(2 t - 1, q)\) and \(\text{GF}(s)\)-linear sets of rank \(n t\) with \(q = s^n\). For \(t = 2\), the indicator set of a semifield spread of \({\text PG}(3, q)\) defines a Rédei linear blocking set of \({\text PG}(2, q^2)\), disjoint from a Baer subline of a Rédei line. And, using such blocking sets many classes of examples of translation ovoids of the Hermitian surface \(H(3, q^2)\) are produced. Moreover, the author presents some open problems on blocking sets, on semifield spreads and on translation ovoids of \(H(3, q^2)\).
