Bott-integrability of overtwisted contact structures

From MaRDI portal

This paper is a continuation of work by the authors of a study of Bott-integrable flows on three-manifolds that began with [\textit{H. Geiges} et al, J. Lond. Math. Soc. (2) 109, No. 1, 42 p. (2024; Zbl 1542.53102]. They note that, among other results, this work intends to streamline the terminology they used earlier.\N\NA contact form \(\alpha\) on a compact three-manifold \(M\) is said to be Bott-integrable if there is a Morse-Bott function \(f: M \rightarrow \mathbb{R}\) that is invariant under the Reeb flow of \(\alpha\), so that d\(f(R) = 0\) for the Reeb vector field \(R\) of \(\alpha\). A contact structure \(\xi\) on \(M\) is Bott-integrable if there is a Bott-integrable contact form with \(\xi = \) ker \(\alpha\).\N\NThe main result here is that an overtwisted contact structure on a closed three-manifold is Bott-integrable if and only if the Poincaré dual of its Euler class can be represented by a graph link. A graph link is a link in a three-manifold whose complement is a graph manifold. A graph manifold is a three-manifold that can be cut into Seifert fibered pieces. A contact structure \(\xi\) is said to be overtwisted if there is an embedded disk \(D\) whose boundary \(\partial{D}\) is tangent to \(\xi\) at every point.
