Classification of almost abelian Lie groups admitting left-invariant complex or symplectic structures

From MaRDI portal

A Lie algebra is called almost abelian if it has a codimension one abelian ideal. In this case, the Lie algebra structure is encoded by a single endomorphism of the ideal. The authors give necessary and sufficient conditions for an almost abelian Lie algebra to admit complex or symplectic structures in terms of that endomorphism. Their results in particular show that nilpotent almost abelian Lie algebras admitting complex structures also admit symplectic structures. Also, they obtain infinitely many examples of compact almost abelian nilmanifolds admitting both complex and symplectic structures, but no Kähler one. Along the way they prove a characterization of isomorphism classes of nilpotent almost abelian Lie algebras that may be of use for researchers in the area.
