Commutative ordinary differential operators.
Sind \(f\) und \(g\) Polynome mit konstanten Koeffizienten, und ist \(P\) ein Differentialoperator, so sind die beiden Operatoren \(f(P)\) und \(g(P)\) vertauschbar. Es gibt aber auch vertauschbare Differentialoperatoren, die nicht auf diese Form gebracht werden können. Es entsteht daher die Frage nach den allgemeinsten Paaren von Operatoren, die vertauschbar sind. Diese Frage wird hier noch nicht gelöst, sondern nur charakteristische Eigenschaften derartiger Operatoren aufgestellt. Eine vollständige Erledigung findet dagegen der Fall, daß einer der beiden Operatoren vom zweiten Grade ist.
