Compact Toeplitz operators on Bergman spaces

From MaRDI portal

Let \(A^{2,\gamma}\), \(-1<\gamma<\infty,\) be the weighted Bergman space of analytic functions on the open unit ball \(B_n\subset {\mathbb C}^n\) and let \(P_\gamma\) be the corresponding orthogonal projection in \(L^2.\) For any symbol \(f\in L^\infty (B_n)\) the Toeplitz operator \(T_f\) is defined on \(A^{2,\gamma}\) by \(T_f h=P_\gamma (fh).\) The author proves results about the compactness of the operator \(T_f.\) Let \(\widetilde{f}\) be the Berezin transform of the symbol \(f\). Then the condition \(\widetilde{f}(w) \to 0\) as \(| w| \to 1^-\) is necessary and sufficient for the compactness of \(T_f\) in the following cases: (i) \(f\) is uniformly continuous with respect to the Bergman metric, (ii) \(f\) is radial. The case when \(f\) is \(1\) or \(-1\) in consecutive shells in \(B_n\) is also considered.
