Control theorems for Hilbert modular varieties
This paper proves an analogue for certain Hilbert modular varieties of the result of \textit{M. Ohta} [Math. Ann. 318, No. 3, 557--583 (2000; Zbl 0967.11016)], which for modular curves extracts the ordinary part of étale cohomology \(H^1(Y_1(Np^r), \operatorname{Sym}^k\mathbb{Z}(1))\) from that of \(H^1(Np^\infty)\), which is a limit of cohomology with coefficients in \(\mathbb{Z}(1)\) only. The proofs use techniques and results due to \textit{A. Caraiani} and \textit{M. Tamiozzo} [Compos. Math. 159, No. 11, 2279--2325 (2023; Zbl 1537.14041)], and an extension to the Hilbert modular case of the methods of \textit{D. Loeffler} et al. [``Spherical varieties and $p$-adic families of cohomology classes, Preprint, \url{arXiv:2106.16082}]. The use of the latter imposes a mild restriction on the level groups involved, to avoid certain technical issues essentially arising from the units in the number field.
