This paper has been motivated by work done by \textit{V. Camillo} and \textit{M. Yousif} [Commun. Algebra 19, No. 2, 655-662 (1991; Zbl 0718.16006)]\ which showed that if \(M\) is a C1 (extending) module whose socle has finite Goldie dimension, then \(M\) may be decomposed as the direct sum of a finite dimensional module and a semisimple module. The aim here is to develop dual results concerning the decompositon properties of dual-extending (D1) modules. Using duals to essentially closed modules and Goldie dimension, viz. the interior and dual Goldie dimension, it is proved that for a D1 module \(M\) with DCC (resp. ACC) on small submodules, \(M=A\oplus S\) where \(A\) is artinian (resp. noetherian) and \(S\) is semisimple. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0878.00051].
