Delay-robust control of distributed parameter systems

From MaRDI portal

This book concerns mainly the boundary or distributed control of some PDEs, which has five chapters: 1. Introduction; 2. Constrained Control of PDE Systems; 3. Sampled-Data and Delayed Control of PDE Systems; 4. Event-Triggered Control of PDE Systems; 5. Disturbance Rejection of PDE Systems.\N\NChapter 1 is a brief introduction and literature review to a classical heat equation, the Korteweg-de Vries (KdV) equation/the Korteweg-de Vries Burgers (KdVB) equation, the Kuramoto-Sivashinsky equation (KSE), a classical nonlinear Schrödinger equation, the cascaded ODE-PDE/PDE-PDE system, some time-delay ODE systems, and the related concepts and approaches of control to be used in the following chapters.\N\NIn Chapter 2, based on the backstepping method, the authors discuss the regional stability of a nonlinear Schrödinger equation with state delay and internal disturbances as well as the boundary stabilization of a cascaded ODE-heat system with a time-varying state delay and actuator saturation.\N\NChapter 3 is the main and important chapter of this book, which presents the time-triggered sampled-data control of some PDEs via the time-delay method to the corresponding Lyapunov functionals. The PDEs addressed in the chapter are a 1-D KSE, a 2D KSE over a rectangular domain, a KSE under the Dirichlet/periodic boundary conditions with spatially scheduled actuators, a cascaded heat-heat system and the KdVB. In view of spatially distributed measurements, the chapter gives locally stabilizing controllers for the 1D and 2D KSEs. Moreover, among others, sufficient stability conditions in the form of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) for related closed-loop system are presented in Chapter 3.\N\NChapter 4 considers the event-triggered control for some 1D nonlinear KdV equation for which the time-delay method seems to have no effect and provides sufficient conditions based on LMIs to ensure the regional exponential stability of the closed-loop system.\N\NIn Chapter 5, the authors consider the stabilization of a certain 1D KdVB equation, particularly in the presence of external disturbances, and introduce the active disturbance rejection control (ADRC) and the disturbance observer-based control (DOBC). Using the Lyapunov functional method, they establish sufficient stability conditions for the closed-loop system.\N\NAs stated by the authors in the Preface, although most of the results are available in a wide variety of journals, a monograph is still required. In my view, the book is interesting. I would like to recommend it to students and researchers interested in the boundary or distributed control of PDEs.
