Detecting random bifurcations via rigorous enclosures of large deviations rate functions
It is well known that in the normal form of a pitchfork bifurcation forced by additive, white-in-time noise, some features of the bifurcation are ``destroyed due to the effect of noise. However, by considering the finite-time Lyapunov exponents (FTLE), one can recover some ``signature of the original pitchfork. The main goal of this work is to provide a description of transitions from uniform to nonuniform synchronization in diffusions based on large deviation estimates for FTLE.\N\NThis paper contains: conditions guaranteeing the existence of the rate function in large deviations for a broad class of stochastic flows (Section 2); some general results on transitions from negative to positive FTLE (Section 3); computer-assisted estimates of the rate function for two sets of worked examples (Section 4).
