Deterministic chaos in one-dimensional continuous systems

From MaRDI portal

Investigations of stability, vibrations and buckling of structural members should be considered as a three-dimensional time-dependent nonlinear problem, taking into account various nonlinear factors such as geometrical nonlinearity, material nonlinearity, etc. However, this book demonstrates that these three-dimensional problems can be reduced to one-dimensional problems by reducing infinite to finite dimensions and by reducing the governing nonlinear partial differential equations to a set of finite ordinary differential equations.NEWLINENEWLINEThe book contains nine chapters, namely: 1. Bifurcational and chaotic dynamics of simple structural members such as beams, plates, panels and shells, 2. Introduction to fractal dynamics, 3. Introduction to chaos and wavelets, 4. Simple chaotic models, 5. Discrete and continuous dissipative systems, 6. Euler-Bernoulli beams, 7. Timoshenko and Sheremetev beams, 8. Panels, and 9. Plates and shells.NEWLINENEWLINEThe bibliography contains a large amount of pertinent literature. The book is easy to read. Figures and diagrams are presented in an excellent manner. The book is intended for post-graduate and doctoral students, applied mathematicians, physicists, academicians and persons from the industry belonging to both mechanical and civil engineering.
