Distance distribution of cyclic orbit flag codes
Let \({\mathbb F}_q\) be the finite field of size \(q.\) For any pair of \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\)-subspaces \(U\) and \(V\) of \(\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\) the subspace distance is defined as \(\text{d}_S(U, V) = \dim(U + V) -\dim(U \cap V).\) A subspace code \({\mathcal C}\) is a nonempty collection of \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\)-subspaces of \(\mathbb{F}_{q^n}.\) If \({\mathcal C}\subseteq {\mathcal G}_q (k, n)\) (the Grassmannian), \(\mathcal C\) is called constant dimension code of dimension \(k.\) For a \(\mathbb{F}_{q}\)-subspaces \(U\) the set \(\text{Orb}(U) = \{\alpha U \vert \alpha\in \mathbb{F}_{q^n}^\ast\}\) is the cyclic orbit code generated by \(U.\) This paper builds on the concept of Sidon spaces: a subspace \(U\) of \({\mathbb F}_{q^n}\) is a Sidon space if for all nonzero \(a, b, c, d \in U,\) the condition \(ab = cd\) implies \(\{a{\mathbb F}_q , b{\mathbb F}_q\} = \{c{\mathbb F}_q , d{\mathbb F}_q\},\) where \(e{\mathbb F}_q =\{e\lambda \vert \lambda\in{\mathbb F}_q\}.\)\N\NGiven integers \(0 < t_1 < \cdots < t_r < n,\) a flag of type \((t_1, \ldots, t_r)\) on the extension field \(\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\) is a sequence \({\mathcal F} = ({\mathcal F}_1,\ldots, {\mathcal F}_r),\) of subspaces of \(\mathbb{F}_{q^n}\) such that \({\mathcal F}_1\subsetneq \cdots \subsetneq {\mathcal F}_r\) and, for every \(1 \leq i\leq r,\) \({\mathcal F}_i\) is a \(t_i\) -dimensional vector space over \({\mathbb F}_q.\) Given a flag \(\mathcal F\) on \(\mathbb{F}_{q^n},\) the cyclic orbit flag code generated by \({\mathcal F}\) is the set \(\text{Orb}({\mathcal F}).\) A complete characterization of optimal full-length cyclic orbit flag codes is given and those codes are generated by suitable Sidon flags. A result related to the cardinality of a cyclic orbit flag code generated by a Sidon flag is given and these codes reach the best possible size as well as each of their projected codes.\N\NA study of cyclic orbit flag codes on \({\mathbb F}_{q^n}\) that have full-length size and attain the maximum possible minimum distance for any type vector is performed. It is shown that an orbit \(\text{Orb}({\mathcal F})\) having the best possible size does not attain necessarily the maximum distance.\N\NThe authors have considered the case of a more general admission type vector: \(t = (1, k_1, k_2, n-1)\) with \(k_1\) and \(k_2\) satisfying either \(1 < k_1 <\frac{n}{2} < k_2 < n-1\) or \(1 < k_1 = \frac{n}{2}= k_2 < n-1.\) Exact list of parameters of the projected codes of any optimal full-length cyclic orbit flag code in these setting is given.\N\NThe distance distribution of the family of optimal full-length cyclic orbit flag code of type \((1, k, n - 1),\) for some \(1 < k < n-1\) is completely determined. Cyclic flag codes with minimum distance \(D(t,n)-2\) and more than \(\frac{q^n-1}{q-1}\) elements are considered. By considering a union of orbits in order to increase the size of the codes without decreasing the distance, a more restrictive constraints on the type vector are derived.
