Distributed systems for system architects
``Distributed Systems for System Architects by P. Verissimo and L. Rodriges is a teaching and reference book for software developers, designers, integrators and providers as well as for students. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe topic of distributed systems is considered chapter by chapter from different view points (e.g. fundamentals, paradigms, models, examples of realized systems). Each part ends with a stepwise extended case study of a virtual vintage company. Essential non-functional aspects, e.g. fault-tolerant systems, real time systems, security and management in distributed systems, are considered in peculiar chapters. For this purpose, already presented facts and examples have been used and extended according to the important details of the different aspects. Thus, the reader receives a stepwise view of how to composite a distributed system, beginning with system requirements analyses, the probabilities choices, appropriate models and algorithms up to the verification of the underlying paradigms against the real world behaviour. The authors competently describe the problem of distributed systems, as the conditionality of requirements, system characteristics, appropriate models and algorithms, underlying paradigms. Each chapter contains a short historical overview of the important development steps as well as extensive literary references giving the opportunity for further studies. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEThe book can be read chapter-wise and it is helpful to understand design spaces, choices, thread-offs and drawbacks and their consequences for solving special distributed system requirements. NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEEspecially interesting for students are the design opportunities/spaces and the discussion of consequences caused by different system requirements.
