The author studies the rings R such that all finitely generated torsionless right R-modules embed in a projective module, giving characterizations of them in some cases of special interest like, for example, when the ring is further supposed to be Von Neumann regular: in this case the condition is equivalent to every matrix ring \(R_ n\) being a Baer ring. He also surveys some related embedding properties, including at the end of the paper a short list of open problems.
