Error analysis of virtual element method for the Poisson-Boltzmann equation

From MaRDI portal

The paper deals with the numerical solution of the Poisson-Boltzmann equation (PBE) with the source of the Dirac distribution. The authors propose a virtual element method for the solution of the PBE in three dimensions and present the nearly optimal error estimates in the \(H^1\)-norm and the \(L_2\)-norm on the general polyhedral mesh, namely the rates of convergence \(O(h|\log h|^{1/2})\) and \(O(h^2|\log h|)\), respectively. The validity of the theoretical results and the efficiency of the virtual element method are verified by the numerical example on different polyhedral meshes.
