Exact solutions in multidimensional gravity with antisymmetric forms

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: This topical review deals with a multidimensional gravitational model containing dilatonic scalar fields and antisymmetric forms. The manifold is chosen in the form M = M_0 x M_1 x ...x M_n, where M_i are Einstein spaces (i >0). The sigma-model approach and exact solutions in the model are reviewed and the solutions with p-branes (e.g. Majumdar-Papapetrou-type, cosmological, spherically symmetric, black-brane and Freund-Rubin-type ones) are considered.

This is a very useful review about exact solutions in a quickly developing field: higher-dimensional cosmological models. This is insofar very useful, as the literature often uses different words for the same models, like string, brane, Kaluza-Klein, sigma model, and pre-geometry models. Besides classical solutions, also some quantum models are discussed.NEWLINENEWLINENEWLINEFrom the differential geometric point of view, most of the considered space-times represent warped products between 4-dimensional space-time and some further ``inner space. This review paper contains a reference list of 211 items, mainly from the year 1995 till 1999.
