This is an introductory text. The paper explores fuzzy neural networks for developing a system with some cognitive abilities. The biological background is shortly summarized in Section 2. Fuzzy neural networks are introduced in Section 3 and finally, in Section 4, the cognitive aspects of these networks are investigated.
