Fast evaluation of electro-static interactions in multi-phase dielectric media
In this paper, a fast numerical solution is developed for solving the following problem arising in electrostatics: Given a bounded domain \(\Omega_2\) and denoting \(\Omega_1= \mathbb{R}^d\setminus\Omega_2\) and taking \(z_i\in\Omega_i\) for \(i= 1,\dots, M\), find the electric potential \(u\), i.e. \(u^{(1)}= u|_{\Omega_1}\) and \(u^{(2)}= u|_{\Omega_2}\) satisfying the following problem \[ -\varepsilon_1\Delta u^{(1)}(x)= \sum^M_{i=1} q_i \delta(x- z_i),\quad x\in\Omega_1,\quad -\varepsilon_2\Delta u^{(2)}(x)= 0,\quad x\in\Omega_2, \] \[ u^{(1)}(x)= u^{(2)}(x),\quad x\in\Gamma= \partial\Omega_2,\quad \varepsilon_1{\partial u^{(1)}\over\partial n}(x)= \varepsilon_2{\partial u^{(2)}\over\partial n}(x),\quad x\in\Gamma, \] \[ \lim_{|x|\to\infty}\Biggl| u^{(1)}(x)+ \Biggl({1\over 2\pi\varepsilon_1} \sum^M_{i=1} q_i\Biggr)\ln(x)\Biggr|= 0. \] The method can deal with multiple inclusions, two- and three-dimensional problems for Laplace, heat, elasticity, Yukawa equations.
