Fibers of partial totalizations of a pointed cosimplicial space
From the introduction: ``A pointed cosimplicial space is a functor \(X^{\bullet}:\Delta \to \mathcal{S}_*\) from the simplex category to the category of pointed spaces. The totalization \(\text{Tot}X^{\bullet}\) is the homotopy inverse limit of the tower \N\[\N\cdots\to \text{Tot}_n(X^{\bullet}) \to \text{Tot}_{n-1}(X^{\bullet}) \to \cdots \to \text{Tot}_1(X^{\bullet}) \to \text{Tot}_0(X^{\bullet}) =X^0 \N\]\N where \( \text{Tot}_n(X^{\bullet})\) is the homotopy limit of the diagram \(X^{\bullet}| _{\Delta ^{\leq n}}\), and \(\Delta ^{\leq n}\) is the subcategory of \(\Delta\) spanned by the nonempty totally ordered sets of cardinality \(\leq n+1\).\N\NIt is classical that the fibers of the maps \( \text{Tot}_m(X^{\bullet}) \to \text{Tot}_{m-1}(X^{\bullet})\) are naturally \(m\)-fold loop spaces.\N\NLet \(\mathcal{C}\) be any pointed \(\infty\)-category with limits. Althought they don't give an explicit description, the authors prove the existence of a functor \(F_{n,m}:\text{Fun}(\Delta,\mathcal{C})\to \mathcal{C}\) such that for any cosimplicial space \(X^{\bullet}\in \text{Fun}(\Delta,\mathcal{C})\) there is a functorial fiber squence \N\[\NF_{n,m}(\Omega^rX^{\bullet})\simeq\Omega^rF_{n,m}(X^{\bullet})\to \text{Tot}_m(X^{\bullet}) \to \text{Tot}_{n}(X^{\bullet})\N\]\N where \(r=2n-m+2\) and \(n<m\leq 2n+1\). That is, the fiber of \( \text{Tot}_m(X^{\bullet}) \to \text{Tot}_{n}(X^{\bullet})\) depends only only on \(\Omega^rX^{\bullet}\) and is, in particular, an \(r\)-fold loop space.\N\NThey also discuss generalizations to other types of homotopy limits and colimits.
