Function spaces on Corson-like compacta
A compact space \(K\) is \emph{\(\kappa\)-Corson} if it is homeomorphic to a subset of\N\[\N\Sigma_\kappa(\Gamma):=\big\{x\in \mathbb{R}^\Gamma\colon |\{\gamma\in \Gamma\colon x_\gamma \neq 0\}| < \kappa\big\},\N\]\Nfor some set \(\Gamma\). When \(\kappa= \omega_1\), this is the well-studied class of Corson compact spaces, but this more general case has been considered as well, see, \emph{e.g.}, the recent papers by \textit{A. Avilés} and \textit{M. Krupski} [Bull. Lond. Math. Soc. 57, No. 6, 1729--1748 (2025; Zbl 08059839)] and Marciszewski, Plebanek, and Zakrzewski [\textit{W. Marciszewski} et al., ``Digging into the classes of $\kappa$-Corson compact spaces, Preprint, \url{arXiv:2107.02513}, to appear in Isr. J. Math.]. When \(\kappa= \omega\), the notion of \(\omega\)-Corson compact space can be generalised to that of a NY space. A compact space \(K\) is a \emph{NY compact} if there are compact metrisable spaces \((X_\gamma)_{\gamma \in\Gamma}\) and points \(a_\gamma\in X_\gamma\) such that \(K\) is homeomorphic to a subset of\N\[\N\sigma(X_\gamma,a_\gamma,\Gamma):=\left\{(x_\gamma)_{\gamma\in \Gamma}\in \prod_{\gamma\in \Gamma} X_\gamma\colon |\{\gamma\in \Gamma\colon x_\gamma \neq a_\gamma\}|< \omega\right\}.\N\]\NThis paper studies the relationship between these two classes of compacta and the properties of the function spaces \(C_p(K)\) of real-valued continuous functions on \(K\), endowed with the topology of pointwise convergence.\N\NAmong other results, the main contribution of the paper is that the classes of \(\omega\)-Corson and NY compacta are stable under isomorphisms of the respective function spaces. More precisely (and more generally), if \(K\) is a \(\omega\)-Corson (respectively, NY) compact and there is a continuous linear map from \(C_p(K)\) to \(C_p(L)\) with dense range, where \(L\) is compact, then \(L\) is \(\omega\)-Corson (respectively, NY) as well.\N\NAnother result (Theorem 5.8) is a characterisation, for uncountable regular cardinals \(\kappa\), of \(\kappa\)-Corson compacta in terms of the space \(C_p(K)\). This extends results of \textit{R. Pol} [``On weak and pointwise topology in function spaces, University of Warsaw preprint No. 4184, Warsaw (1984)], who proved the case when \(k=\omega_1\), and \textit{M. Bell} and \textit{W. Marciszewski} [Czech. Math. J. 54, No. 4, 899--914 (2004; Zbl 1080.54508)], who considered successor cardinals.
