General solution for the second-order nonlocal linear differential equation

From MaRDI portal

The paper is concerned with a particular second order differential equation where the function value and its derivatives are used at both the current time \(t\) and at the historical time \(-t\). The author chooses to represent the solution as the sum of an odd and an even function and converts the equation into a system of local problems. There is discussion of five cases, based on co-efficient values and some awkward consequences for existence and uniqueness are revealed. The paper concludes with some examples.
