Half-automorphisms of some code loops

From MaRDI portal

A half-isomorphism from a loop \((L,*)\) to a loop \((L',\cdot)\) is any bijection \(f:L\to L'\) such that \(f(x*y)\in\{f(x)\cdot f(y),\, f(y)\cdot f(x)\}\) for all \(x,y\in L\). It is a half-automorphism if both loops coincide. In addition, a half-isomorphism is termed nontrivial if it is neither an isomorphism nor an anti-isomorphism. Furthermore, a code loop is characterized as a finite Moufang loop \(L\) such that \(|L^2|\leq 2\). This paper deals with the existence of code loops of rank \(3\) with nontrivial half-automorphisms. To this end, the authors describe the groups of elementary mappings of these codes and make use of their known classification into five isomorphic classes (see [\textit{A. Grishkov} and \textit{R. Miguel Pires}, Int. J. Algebra Comput. 28, No. 1, 163--177 (2018; Zbl 1396.20079)]) according to their characteristic vectors. In particular, the authors prove that three of the five non-isomorphic code loops of rank \(3\) have no nontrivial half-automorphism. In addition, they prove that every half-automorphism of the code loop given by the Chein loop of the quaternion group \(Q_8\) is a product of an automorphism by a mapping of the group generated by all elementary mappings.\N\NFor the entire collection see [Zbl 1570.20002].
