Hilbert's seventeenth problem (sums of squares in rational function fields)
From MaRDI portal
This is a survey of the origins and the history of solving Hilbert's seventeenth problem concerning representability of positive definite forms as a sum of squares. The author points out mathematical ideas that appeared during research on this problem. He also describes results and conjectures about Pythagoras numbers and its generalizations.NEWLINENEWLINEFor the entire collection see [Zbl 0902.00028].
