Improved Crouzeix-Raviart scheme for the Stokes and Navier-Stokes problem
The authors are concerned with a new discretisation scheme for the pressure gradient in solving 2D and 3D Dirichlet boundary value problems associated with the Stokes and Navier-Stokes systems. They use a multi-point flux approximation to discretise the pressure gradient term in the classical variational formulation of the Stokes system. A benchmark 2D problem is solved in this case, and the corresponding errors are displayed. To get the spatial discretisation of the Navier-Stokes system, the authors use an unconditionally stable finite element-finite volume pressure correction scheme and then a prediction-correction time scheme. To validate their numerical results, they use the well-known analytical Green-Taylor vortex solution. Some errors for velocity and pressure are displayed. No theoretical error analysis is provided.
