Indian mathematics.

From MaRDI portal

This book covers, in little more than a hundred pages, three periods of Indian mathematics: the Sulvasutra period up to 200 AD, the astronomical period between 400 and 600 AD, and the Hindu period between 600 and 1200 AD. The discussion of the Sulvsutra period is limited to the Pythagorean theorem and the extraction of square roots, that of the astronomical period to sine tables, and that of the Hindu period to linear and quadratic Diophantine equations. The appendix presents extracts from original sources. Except for the appendix, this work was republished in Isis 2, Sept. 1919, 326--356.
