Inducing Super-Approximation

From MaRDI portal

Abstract: Let Gamma2subseteqGamma1 be finitely generated subgroups of mGLn0(mathbbZ[1/q0]). For i=1 or 2, let mathbbGi be the Zariski-closure of Gammai in (mGLn0)mathbbQ, mathbbGicirc be the Zariski-connected component of mathbbGi, and let Gi be the closure of Gammai in prodpmidq0mGLn0(mathbbZp). In this article we prove that, if mathbbG1circ is the smallest closed normal subgroup of mathbbG1circ which contains mathbbG2circ and Gamma2curvearrowrightG2 has spectral gap, then Gamma1curvearrowrightG1 has spectral gap.
