Inessential features

From MaRDI portal

The article is focused on ``feature-based context-free grammars. The author introduces a notion of inessential feature as a feature whose distribution is fixed by the remaining features from a given set. These inessential features can serve as an approximation to nonlexical features of a language. Certain inessential features are called eliminable. It is shown how these notions are connected with so-called descriptive complexity of languages and several examples are presented. For the entire collection see [Zbl 0877.00010].
