Information Dispersal and Parallel Computation
This book addresses some key issues in parallel computation from the approach of information dispersal. It presents efficient schemes for fast parallel communication, low congestion, fault tolerance, simulation of ideal parallel computation models, synchronization in asynchronous networks with low sensitivity to variations in component speed, and on- line maintenance. It also describes efficient information dispersal algorithms (IDAs) and their applications to the enforcement of regions of fault containment. While emphasizing on the up-to-date account of the information dispersal approach and its applications in parallel computation, the book also discusses related work in the general area of parallel communication and computation and provides an extensive bibliography, which will be helpful for researchers and students who wish to explore any particular topic in the area. The book is self-contained, although it extends across several disciplines. Its contents are well-organized and technical ideas are presented in a clear and simple way.
