Integral normal Cayley graphs

The analysis of the properties of Cayley graphs and Cayley digraphs is a renowned aspect of research in algebraic graph theory. The enormous amount of existing literature on this topic showcases the enthralling and broad nature of the topic. The spectrum is an important property of graphs, which is investigated to understand their structure, without actually visually representing them, and the question of characterizing different families of graphs possessing integral spectra is an intriguing problem.\N\NCayley digraphs that have all the spectral values of their adjacency matrices are called integral Cayley digraphs. This article characterises the Cayley digraphs that are integral. This article is built on existing studies on this topic, where certain independent results on some properties of the connection sets on which the Cayley digraphs are constructed have been proved. Also, the necessary part of this characterization has already been proved. However, the arguments in this study are independent of the existing results. Also, a part of the characterisation has already been proved when the Cayley digraph considered is constructed on abelian groups. However, as this characterisation given for Cayley graphs constructed on any finite group is based on a more general result, the existing result follows as a Corollary.\N\NThe main characterisation is proved based on existing studies, and two important results -- a lemma and a theorem -- proved in this article. The results are proved systematically; however, they involve a lot of prerequisites for any beginner in the subject. The proof technique involves the use of extensive concepts from group theory and linear algebra, as the topic of study demands. We can see that this study notably advances the existing literature on the topic and solves an important aspect of one of the prominent problems that were yet unresolved.
