Introduction to operations research.

From MaRDI portal

This book results from the lectures on ``Introduction to operations research held by the authors at the Technische Hochschule Darmstadt and Christian-Albrechts-University in Germany. The book will be an indispensable text for the students of economics, business schools, business informatics, computer science and mathematics. Chapter 1 serves the function of introducing operations research by examples. One can get a very good idea of solving a Linear Optimization Problem by reading chapter 2. Chapter 3 introduces some concepts of graph theory. Chapter 4 deals with the solution of linear optimization problems with a special structure. Chapter 5 discusses several instruments of the network planning technique and project management. Problems of Combinatorial and Integer Optimization are characterized and classified in chapter 6. Problems of Dynamic Optimization are discussed in chapter 7. Various aspect of nonlinear optimization -- optimality conditions, algorithms and implementation -- are treated in chapter 8. Chapter 9 deals with queuing theory. Chapter 10 is devoted to simulation. The last chapter gives some examples of solving operations research problems using Excel spreadsheets.
