Inversion of adjunction for the minimal exponent

From MaRDI portal

This paper proves an inversion-of-adjunction statement for the minimal exponent \(\widetilde \alpha(X,Z)\) of a local complete intersection closed subscheme \(Z\) in a smooth complex algebraic variety \(X\), and deduces parallel inversion results for higher Du Bois and higher rational singularities. The main theorem states: if \(H\subset X\) is a hypersurface containing no irreducible component of \(Z\) and \N\[\N\widetilde \alpha(X\setminus H,Z\setminus H)>c \quad\mathrm{and}\quad \widetilde \alpha(X,Z\cap H)\ge c+1 \N\]\Nfor some \(c>0\), then \(\widetilde \alpha(X,Z)>c\).\N\NUsing the established correspondence \N\begin{center} \N\(\widetilde \alpha(X,Z)\ge k+r\) (resp. \(>k+r\)) \(\Longleftrightarrow\) \(Z\) is \(k\)-Du Bois (resp. \(k\)-rational) \end{center} \Nfor a local complete intersection \(Z\subset X\) of codimension \(r\), the author obtains inversion of adjunction for higher singularities: if \(Z\setminus D\) is \(k\)-rational and the Cartier divisor \(D\subset Z\) is \(k\)-Du Bois, then \(Z\) is \(k\)-rational.
