\textit{W. Kohnen} and \textit{R. Salvati Manni} [Osaka J. Math. 41, No. 2, 353--356 (2004; Zbl 1161.11339)] proved that a Siegel modular form \(F\) of degree \(2n\) and weight \(n+k\) obtained by the lifting of Duke, Imamoglu and \textit{T. Ikeda} [Ann. Math. (2) 154, No. 3, 641--681 (2001; Zbl 0998.11023)] from an elliptic modular form of weight \(2k\) is not a linear combination of theta series of even unimodular positive definite quadratic forms of rank \(m=2(n+k)\) if \(n\) is bigger than \(k\). The proof is based on Böcherer's characterization of the cuspidal Siegel eigenforms. In this paper, the author gives a different proof of this result. His proof is based on the local theta correspondence.
