Let \(C\) be a closed convex subset of a real Hilbert space. The authors introduce an iteration process for the so called \(\alpha\)-inverse-strongly-monotone mappings \(A\) of \(C\) into the Hilbert space and a countable family of nonexpansive mappings \(S_{n}\) of \(C\) in itself. They prove that under certain conditions the iteration generated by \[ x_{n+1}=\alpha_{n}x_{n}+(1-\alpha_{n})S_{n}P_{C}(x_{n}-\lambda_{n}Ax_{n}) \] converges weakly to the point \(z\in F(S)\cap VI(C,A)\), where \(VI(C,A)\) represents the set of solutions of the variational problem. The result is applied to the problem of finding a common element of the set of equilibrium problems and that of common fixed points of a countable family of nonexpansive mappings.
