Let \(A\) be an \(N\times N\) complex matrix for which \(a_{i,j}=0\) if \(i-j>1\), \(a_{i,j}=1\) if \(i-j=1\) and \(a_{i,j}=a_{N-j,N-i}\). Set \(\partial _t=d/dt\) and \(\tilde{A}=(a_{i,j}\partial _t^{j-i+1})\). The right determinant det\(_{\text{right}}(t\partial _t-\tilde{A})\) is a differential operator which is uniquely divisible from the right by \(\partial _t\). Set \(L_{A,\infty }=\det _{\text{right}}(t\partial _t-\tilde{A})\partial _t^{-1}\). The differential equation \(L_{A,\infty }\Phi =0\) is called a determinantal equation of order \(N\) or a DN equation. Such equations arise in connection with Fano varieties and Gromov-Witten invariants. The authors prove that a generic differential operator of type DN is irreducible, regular, (anti)self-adjoint and has quasiunipotent local monodromies. They prove that the defining matrix of a DN operator can be recovered from the expression of the operator as a polynomial in \(t\) and \(\partial _t\).
