Cohen-Macaulay monomial ideals of codimension 2 (Q1003145)

Starting from a remark on the structure of Cohen-Macaulay monomial ideals of codimension 2 made by \textit{W. Bruns} and \textit{J. Herzog} in their paper [Math. Proc. Cambridge Phil. Soc. 118, 234--251 (1995; Zbl 0888.13004)], the author gives a full description of all these ideals. The possible relation trees of Cohen-Macaulay monomial ideals of codimension 2 are also studied, and in case that the ideal has a linear resolution it is proved that the relation matrices can be identified with the spanning trees of a connected chordal graph with the property that any two distinct pairs of maximal cliques have at most one vertex in common.
