Assume that \(M\) is a connected compact manifold. Let \(f:M\to M\) be an expansive homeomorphism such that the hyperbolic periodic points are dense in \(M\). It is proved that every hyperbolic periodic point admits a local product structure. Therefore the points admitting a local product structure form an open and dense subset of \(M\). The set of all hyperbolic periodic points having exactly one attracting direction (respectively exactly one repelling direction) either is empty or equals the set of all hyperbolic periodic points. If there exists a hyperbolic periodic point having exactly one attracting direction or exactly one repelling direction, then there is a uniform local product structure and the shadowing property is satisfied. For \(n\geq 3\) the map \(f\) is conjugate to a linear Anosov diffeomorphism in this case.
