Let \(M\) be a closed oriented 3-manifold for which \(S^1 \times M\) admits a symplectic form \(\omega = dt \wedge \nu + \mu\), and denote by \(K\) the complex line bundle whose inverse is given by the kernel of \(*\mu\). This paper investigates the Seiberg--Witten Floer homology groups \(\overline{HM}, \widehat{HM}, \check{HM}\) for the spin\(^c\) structure \({\mathfrak s}_e\) corresponding to the class \(e \in H^2(M;{\mathbb Z})\) with \(2e - c_1(K) = \lambda[\mu]\) for some \(\lambda <0.\) The main result shows that \(\overline{HM}(M, {\mathfrak s}_e)\) vanishes and \(\widehat{HM}(M, {\mathfrak s}_e) \cong \check{HM}(M, {\mathfrak s}_e)\) under these assumptions. It also shows that \({\check{HM}}(M, {\mathfrak s}_e) \cong {\mathbb Z}\) if \(e=0\) and gives further computations in case \(e \neq 0.\) This result is applied to give a partial answer to the following conjecture: if \(S^1\times M\) admits a symplectic form, then \(M\) fibers over the circle \(S^1.\) As the authors point out, this conjecture was solved recently by \textit{S. Friedl} and \textit{S. Vidussi} [``Twisted Alexander polynomials detect fibered 3-manifolds'', \texttt{arXiv:0805.1234}], and they give an alternative proof in the case \(M\) has first Betti number equal to 1 the symplectic form on \(S^1 \times M\) is such that \(c_1(K)\) is not torsion by combining their main theorem with a result of \textit{Y. Ni} [Addendum to: ``Knots, sutures and excision''; \url{arXiv:0808.1327}].
