If a knot \(K\subset S^3\) is (topologically) slice, it is known that its Bing double \(BD(K)\) is a slice link; and it was recently shown that if \(BD(K)\) is slice then \(K\) is algebraically slice [\textit{J. C. Cha, C. Livingston} and \textit{D. Ruberman}, Math. Proc. Camb. Philos. Soc. 144, No.~2, 403--410 (2008; Zbl 1144.57002)]. Applying non-commutative linking forms first studied by the third-named author [\textit{C. Leidy}, Comment. Math. Helv. 81, No.~4, 755--781 (2006; Zbl 1105.57003)], this paper provides a family of counterexamples to the converse; i.e. examples of algebraically slice knots whose Bing doubles (and iterated Bing doubles) fail to be slice links. The method can be generalized to show that analogous conjectures for generalized doubling operators, and for higher analogues of algebraic sliceness, would similarly fail.
