The main result of this paper is a construction of an exact sequence relating the symplectic homology of a symplectic manifold \((W,\omega)\) with the linearized contact homology of the contact boundary \((M,\xi)\) of \(W.\) This relationship is very interesting since the two homology theories are of very different nature. One comes from Floer theory and the other is a symplectic field theory. The authors provide certain explanations for their beautiful result and announce its \(S^1\)-equivariant version. The above exact sequence is a Gysin type sequence and it is constructed from a spectral sequence associated to certain Morse-Bott complex, which is the main technical tool. The proof of the result is long and it essentially occupies the whole paper. The authors provide a section with examples consisting of Riemann surfaces, subcritical Stein manifolds, disc bundles and cotangent bundles.
