Pre-Riesz spaces are defined as order dense linear subspaces of Riesz spaces. For example, every directed Archimedean partially ordered vector space is a pre-Riesz space. A pair \((Y,i)\), where \(Y\) is a Riesz space and \(i : X\rightarrow Y\) is a positive linear map for which \(i(X)\) is order dense in \(Y\), is called a Riesz completion of \(X\). As generalizations of ideals and bands in Riesz spaces, the authors define ideals, solvex ideals, order closed ideals and bands in pre-Riesz spaces and relate these to corresponding notions in the Riesz completion. In the main part of the paper, they study the restriction and extension properties of ideals, order closed ideals, solvex ideals and bands. Sufficiently many examples are given to clarify these concepts.
